The Orton-Gillingham Approach
The Orton-Gillingham approach is an evidence-based, language-based, structured, diagnostic, prescriptive, multi-sensory (MSL) approach to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with or at risk for Specific Learning Disorders, such as dyslexia. It is considered the "Gold Standard" of treatments for dyslexia by the Australian Dyslexia Assosciation.
Orton-Gillingham Therapy is most often associated with one-on-one teacher-student instructional model, however it is not uncommon to be used successfully in small group settings. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is widely renowned as extremely effective for students with dyslexia, however it is becoming more recognised for assisting ALL students with literacy skills- including those with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and mainstream students.
