What is the Orton-Gillingham Approach?
What is the Orton-Gillingham approach? I am actually surprised by how often I get this question. I'm also flabbergasted that many teachers, principals, allied health professionals and literacy specialists do not know what it is, especially given the success rates.
OG works SO WELL!
So, what the heck is Orton-Gillingham?
In a nutshell - it is awesome for teaching kids with learning differences (such as dyslexia, ADHD and ASD) to read.
However - and this is the best part - it works for everyone. The Orton-Gillingham approach is an evidence-informed approach to teaching reading. It aligns with the principles of The Science of Reading - so it is backed by science. It is a multi-sensory structured language (MSL), phonics-based, approach to teach reading, writing and spelling.

My training
I was lucky enough to be OG trained by Ron Yoshimoto himself, who is Co-Director of Orton-Gillingham International, and is extremely well-known in the dyslexia space. I am also trained in PLD (Promoting Literacy Development), an Australian evidence-based approach to Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP). In addition, I have trained in Math-U-See, an evidence-informed, systematic and cumulative approach to teaching maths. So, if your child needs support with literacy or numeracy,
